Artist's Statement: Lately I have been working on experimenting with new media and techniques, working with very dynamic composition and color palettes that combine black and white with very bright vivid colors in the main figures. I have an ongoing political series, called Cause for Celebration, in which I paint scenes and figures from current events that give me pause. These show a planet in flux. Here I push my paintings to do new things for me. The subjects of this series are emotionally draining, so I have been also creating smaller, happier work—scenes of my home, family and friends—to maintain a good balance.

Combining colorful abstraction and stark realism into emotionally charged portraiture of a planet in flux, Sarah Beth's paintings of environmentally compromised landscapes, sweeping foreign vistas, and often-overlooked familiar places, distill the experience of vast space onto finite canvas. They encourage the viewer to step inside and become a part of the narrative in which the underlying subject of human impact on the environment shares equal billing with the environment's impact on humanity.
