Artist's Statement: Born to an art-teacher and an environmental scientist, Sarah Beth Goncarova painted her first oil still life at the age of seven, and has been creating ever since. In 2002 she received her BFA in Sculpture on a full scholarship from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Richmond, Virginia, and in 2005, a Master's degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland.

Combining colorful abstraction and stark realism into emotionally charged portraiture of a planet in flux, Sarah Beth's paintings of environmentally compromised landscapes, sweeping foreign vistas, and often-overlooked familiar places, distill the experience of vast space onto finite canvas. They encourage the viewer to step inside and become a part of the narrative in which the underlying subject of human impact on the environment shares equal billing with the environment's impact on humanity. - Sarah Beth Goncarova
